Daikin Park was the site of a Houston sweep of MLB’s sole Canadian representative.
Every Astros starter got a hit in Houston’s 3-1 victory over the Blue Jays.
The win was an exclamation point for both teams, who essentially flipped positions over three days. Toronto came in two games above .500 and leave one game below, while Houston enjoys the exact opposite position.
Zach Dezenzo led the way for Houston with three hits. Christian Walker and Yainer Díaz had two hits apiece, including a homer for the former and a triple for the latter. Ryan Gusto (3-1, 2.78) also came one out from his first ever Quality Start, striking out six over 5 2⁄3 innings. He gave up one run on three hits and a walk.
With 25,209 on hand at Daikin Park, Houston got on the board for all three runs in the second inning, and luckily it was enough to hold on. Walker (3) opened the frame with a solo home run to left-center field to open the scoring.

Walker’s homer left the bat at 95.4 MPH with an xBa of .110. Although it was only a home run in three ballparks, Houston’s home stadium is one of them. Directly following Walker’s round-trip, Diáz followed by legging out his first three-bagger of the season.
Díaz came home one batter later on a Dezenzo single, then Zach scored in turn on a Yordan Alvarez sacrifice fly.
Walker’s surge has him above .200 for the first time this season. Only Mauricio Dubón and Díaz remain below Mendoza’s magical line.
Following Gusto’s 17 outs, Bryan King pitched 1 1⁄3 perfect innings, followed by scoreless innings for both a Bryan Abreu hold and a Josh Hader (7) save.
Toronto got their lone run in the fourth inning off Gusto, when George Springer (remember George?) drove home Vlad Guerrero with a double.
WPA Kings
The big hero of the day was Gusto, with a 20.1 WPA for his efforts. That was followed by King’s 9.7, Walker’s 8.9 and Alvarez’ 8.1. Abreu and Díaz had 7.1 each, followed closely by Hader’s 7.0.

The Astros get a day off before taking on the Kansas City Royals (10-14) for three games starting Friday.
