Yordan Alvarez homers and doubles to back up another All-Star-quality start by Hunter Brown.
After failing to score for two straight games, I thought our beloved Stros had all come down with a dread disease and would never score another run again.
Apparently they’re over it.
Not that they needed to score that much. Hunter Brown looks like an early contender for Cy Young coming out of the gates of this young season. His ERA continues to hover in record Bob Gibson territory, currently 1.22 after his six inning, seven hits, one walk with nine strikeouts outing today.
The offensive breakout began in the third from a welcome source: Yordan Alvarez. His three run homer finally put the Stros on the board. Is the old Yordan back? His double in the first was impressive as well.

The Astros added another run in the fifth on a Jeremy Pena single that scored Chas McCormick, who doubled in front of Pena.

Pena added two more RBI from the lead-off spot with a sixth inning double that scored Zach Dezenzo and McCormick.

The Astros’ seventh run came from another overdue source, Yainer Diaz, who homered to right.
Bryan King proved human in relief of Brown, allowing a run in the seventh inning on two hits and a sac fly.
Batting ninth, Chas McCormick was 3-4 with a double and three runs scored. His OPS of .787 leads the team, not to mention that of the other two right-fielders currently ahead of him on the depth chart, Cam Smith and Zach Dezenzo. He also leads the team in BA at .318.
Tay Scott made the game interesting in the ninth inning after allowing a double and a triple, but he stopped the bleeding, giving the Astros a needed win as they head home to face A.J. Hinch and the Tigers.
