Isaac Paredes is the man today.
The Astros continued their trend of winning with late-game heroics today, coming away from Arlington, Texas, with a one-run win and a series split. It was the Astros’ 13th come-from-behind win already in this young season.
Framber Valdez was dealing today….Except….For the all-too-often single-inning meltdown. The Rangers got to Framber in the fourth with three runs on four singles to take a 3-0 lead.
Meanwhile, Rangers starter Jack Leiter had a no-hitter going into the seventh inning until Yainer Diaz spoiled both the no-no and the shutout with an opp-taco to right with two outs on a 3-2 count.
Leiter started the eighth inning, allowing singles to Jake Meyers and Cam Smith before giving way to Robert Garcia. Garcia got two quick outs before facing the leadoff hitter, Isaac Paredes, who hit the go-ahead hit, a homer just over the left-field fence, barely in fair territory.
It was Paredes’ second go-ahead hit in the last three games. Although we certainly miss Alex Bregman and lament his stunning resurgence at the bat while playing with the rival Boston Red Sox, his replacement, Paredes, is emerging as a star of the present and future
Astros. He is the Astros’ best hitter so far in 2025.
Although not sharp, Bryan Abreu managed to hold the Rangers in the eighth inning, and Josh Hader was locked in for the ninth, striking out two of the three Batters he faced. By lasting seven innings, Framber Valdez emerged the winning pitcher.
