Starting sub Brandon Walter went six innings allowing pnly two runs
The Astros took two of three games in Cleveland this weekend but dropped the third game of the series today, 4-2.
It’s hard to take solace in a loss, but there was good coming from this game going forward. Mainly, Brandon Walters, AAA substitute called into emergency service to replace one of three regular Astros starters, gave the Astros every chance to win, going six innings, allowing only two runs on a second-inning Bo Naylor home run.
Naylor scattered six hits, no walks, with five strikeouts. It’s as good a performance as you’d expect from any other pitcher on the staff and good enough to win most games with just average offense.
Unfortunately, the Astros managed only two runs on a Cam Smith double in the seventh inning. The Guardians took back the lead with two runs in the bottom of the seventh against Steven Okert, only one of which was earned due to his own throwing error.
For those who keep saying, “When will Jake Meyers cool off?” the answer is,” Not yet.” He had four hits today, his second four-hit game of the season. Unfortunately, Jermey Pena’s hitting streak came to an end today. Besides Smith’s double and Meyers’ four hits, the only other Astro to hit safely was Yanier Diaz, with two base knocks.
The Astros are off tomorrow but begin a three-game series with the White Sox Tuesday. Lance McCullers is scheduled to pitch. We’ll see.
