Just like the stock market, prospects’ stock will go up and down throughout the season. Here is the Astros Prospect Stock Report: Volume 1.

Disclaimer – Being on the stock down part of this list does not necessarily mean the player is a bad prospect. More just noting the rough patch they are experiencing this season.

Hitter – Matthew Barefoot

Barefoot was the Astros 6th round pick in the 2019 draft out of Campbell University. He played in Tri-City following the draft but struggled a bit. To start the 2021 season the Astros assigned him to Fayetteville and he is making quick work of the pitching in Low A ball. Although he is 23 years old, he is dominating to a .352/.397/.630 line with 4 2B, 3 HR, 15 RBI and 7 SB. He probably won’t be in Low A much longer and he will have to continue to hit to see that stock rise, but he has started off the 2021 season strong.

2021 Stats: 14 G, .354 BA/.397 OBP/.630 SLG, 4 2B, 3B, 3 HR, 15 RBI, 7 SB, 174 wRC+

Pitcher – Jimmy Endersby

Endersby fell victim to the 2020 draft which only had five rounds and he went undrafted. But he was one of the pitchers who had a choice of all 30 teams and chose to sign with the Astros. He was off to a solid start before COVID hit but he has continued the success in the Astros system. Through 3 outings in High A he has a 2.77 ERA with a 2.38 FIP but has 4 BB/21 K in 13.0 innings. He’s allowed just 7 hits. Great start to his professional career.

2021 Stats: 3 G, 2.77 ERA, 13.0 IP, 7 H, 4 ER, 4 BB, 21 K, 14.5 K/9

Hitter – Ross Adolph

Adolph was acquired in the deal that sent J.D. Davis to the Mets. He had some success following the draft but struggled a bit in 2019. After the non 2020 season due to COVID, I hoped he could come out and establish himself in AA at 24. Unfortunately he has struggled a bit hitting just .114 with 1 HR and striking out 38.8% of the time.

2021 Stats: 10 G, .114 BA/.235 OBP/.267 SLG, 1 HR, 3 RBI, 46 wRC+

Pitcher – Yeremi Ceballos

Ceballos is a 22 year old left handed pitcher out of the Dominican Republic. He was solid in 2019 striking out 26 in 24.1 innings in relief. This season he started out in High A Asheville and has really struggled getting hit around but also finding the strike zone. In just 2.2 innings he has allowed 9 runs (7 earned) while walking 10.

2021 Stats: 4 G, 23.63 ERA, 2.2 IP, 3 H, 7 ER, 10 BB, 4 K
