Colton Gordon mows em down
Where have you been all my life, Colton Gordon?
That the combination of Framber Valdez, Bryan Abreu and Josh Hader shut out the Phillies last night is remarkable but not astounding. But that rookie Colton Gordon, Steven Okert, Bennett Sousa, Bryan King, and Hader could do it for a second consecutive night?….Except for Hader, the Phillies must be asking: “Who are these guys?”
This win gave Gordon a 3-1 record after going five innings, allowing four hits, no walks, with five Ks.
Especially gutsy was Bryan King. With a 1-0 lead, King allowed three consecutive singles, loading the bases with one out. He wiggled out with a strikeout and a groundout to preserve the win.
Hader showed clutch too. Down in the count 3-0 in the ninth to leadoff hitter Realmuto, he came back to get the K, and continued to get the next Phils to earn his 21st save.
The Astros offense only managed five hits, and in the last two games have scored only three runs. Tonight the scoring came in the first inning on a Isaac Paredes single scoring Jeremy Pena, who led off for the Astros with a double. The AStros added insurance in the eighth on a Victor Caratini homer.
How often does a team that scores three runs in two games win both?
