An old friend, Clayton Kershaw, takes on the Stros, and an old friend, Zack Greinke.
When I saw the pitching matchup I thought, wow. This is one for the ages.
Remember way back to 2015? The first year of the Astros’ remarkable string of playoff runs. We knew the Astros had something special that year going forward when they won two straight against the Dodgers, beating Zack Greinke and Clayton Kershaw. (I don’t remember the order)
Zack Greinke was 19-3 that year with a 1.66 ERA. Kershaw was 16-7 with a 2.13 ERA. The Astros won both games. I don’t know but I doubt any other team beat that tandem back-to-back in 2015.
Tonight these two greats, likely Hall-of Famers, face each other, one with the Astros, and the other still with Dodgers, but now with a lot more history between these two teams, and between Kershaw and the Astros.
So far this season Kershaw is the better pitcher, sporting a 3.18 ERA compared to Greinke’s 3.77. Both teams can hit a ton. It should be fascinating.
