Framber Valdez hopes to build on his strong start to the season his last time out

If there’s hope for the bullpen, it lies in the starters.

Framber Valdez is back from his finger injury for his second start of the season. Hopefully, he can stretch out and save the bullpen any more stress than is necessary. Valdez’s return to the rotation has freed Cristian Javier to bolster the bullpen, and when Lance McCullers returns, one of Luis Garcia or Jose Urquidy will also give the bullpen a needed shot in the arm.

Valdez goes against Nick Pivetta for the Red Sox, who is 6-0 this year with a 3.86 ERA.

After tonight’s game, the season will be exactly one-third over.
