The San Diego Padres have acquired closer Mason Miller and left-hander JP Sears from the Athletics. They made the trade on Thursday, adding major upgrades to their pitching staff. The Padres sent the A’s a package of prospects, including shortstop Leo De Vries and pitchers Henry Baez, Braden Nett, and Eduarniel Nunez. Miller, 26, has 20 saves this season and was an All-Star in 2024. Sears, 29, has a 7-9 record this season. The Padres entered Thursday with a 60-49 record and currently hold the last National League wild card spot.
