Pirates rookie Paul Skenes turned in another solid performance in his third major league start. Skenes allowed one run over six innings in Pittsburgh’s 7-6 loss to the San Francisco Giants. The 21-year-old right-hander gave up six hits and struck out three against one walk. Skenes was effective despite not having his best stuff, a sign of growth for the highly touted prospect. Skenes and 22-year-old Jared Jones give the Pirates one of the best young one-two punches in the majors. Their rapid development has Pittsburgh believing it can contend for a playoff spot this season.
