Japanese infielder Munetaka Murakami is entering Major League Baseball’s posting system. He will be available for teams to sign as a free agent starting Saturday through Dec. 22. Murakami, who turns 26 in February, was the Central League’s MVP in 2021 and 2022 with the Yakult Swallows. He hit 56 homers in 2022, breaking Sadaharu Oh’s record for a Japanese-born player in Nippon Professional Baseball. This season, he batted .273 with 22 homers in 56 games, limited by an oblique injury. Murakami has a career average of .270 with 246 homers over eight seasons.
