A few things:
- Guardians lineup is still yet to be published.
- Tonight’s game is Colton Gordon’s fifth major league start. He’s never faced Cleveland. This is the first of two series’ this season between Houston and Cleveland, with the return engagement at Daikin Park set for July 7 through July 9.
- Jeremy Peña will be looking to add to his 11-game hitting streak, during which he’s .432 with nine runs, four doubles, three homers, six RBI, and five SB. He’s put up a 1.195 OPS during that time.
- Ronel Blanco is scheduled to undergo TJS today. We should look for him again around the mid- to tail-end of 2026 or the start of the 2027 season.
- With 2,294 hits, Jose Altuve is sitting 20 behind franchise-second Jeff Bagwell. I don’t think he’s gonna get there today, but probably this month, right?
- Despite starting the opener on the bench, Yainer Díaz will be looking to hurt his former team if given the chance. He initially signed with the then Cleveland Indians through free agency in 2016. He joined the Houston Astros along with Phil Maton in exchange for Myles Straw. Good trade.
- Josh Hader is 16-for-16 in save opportunities this season, and will be looking to continue his run of dominance over opposing hitters in the ninth inning.
