Trade deals flying left and right

Carlos Correa

Dana Brown has made a move, at is wasn’t one that brought in a new face, but rather a familiar one.

According to MLB.com’s Brian McTaggart, the Houston Astros have agreed to a trade with the Minnesota Twins that is not only bringing back Carlos Correa, but bringing him back as a third baseman.

The three-time Gold Glover agreed to the deal per Ken Rosenthal, meaning it will be the first time in Correa’s career that he will be playing anywhere that is not shortstop. With Jeremy Peña expected to return to the lineup for their series opener against Boston, it is assumed Correa will be starting at third for that first game.

Correa started out his career in Houston, being drafted by the Astros first overall in 2012 and later playing seven year at shortstop, including winning the 2017 World Series with the team and later becoming the face of the cheating scandal.

He is currently on a six-year contract that he signed with the Twins back in 2023 worth $200 million, meaning he is owed around $32 million annually for the next four years of his contract. That contract also include four more years worth of options that the Astros can agree to, meaning Correa could be back a while.

In return, the Twins are getting High-A pitcher Matt Mikulski, as well as paying $33 million of the remaining contract.

Mikulski is a 26-year-old left-handed pitcher out of Fordham who was drafted by the San Francisco Giants in 2021. Since then he has pitched four full minor league seasons, not yet making it to the bigs, with a 6.46 ERA.

Jesús Sánchez

Just after the news about the Correa deal broke, the Astros fan were treated to even more news that we wanted to hear.

Another deal was made, this one send over two prospects and RHP Ryan Gusto to the Miami Marlins in exchange for OF Jesús Sánchez, giving Houston the left-handed bat they have been looking for.

The Astros are acquiring OF Jesus Sanchez from the Marlins for RHP Ryan Gusto, sources tell me and @brianmctaggart. Houston lands the lefty bat it has been seeking.

Sánchez, who is just 27-years-old, has been an average hitter for the Marlins his entire six-year career so far, with just a .243 career batting average, but it is his glove that is what make him shine. In his near 500 games played in his career, he has recorded just 16 errors.

He will offer Houston a much-need, stable left-handed hitter in the lineup that can still do some damage at the plate.
