Today in Astros history – June 14

June 14, 2025 by The Crawfish Boxes

What happened today in team history?

1992 – Incaviglia’s career day

Houston Astros outfielder Pete Incaviglia tied a club record with seven RBI to help his team beat the San Francisco Giants 15-7. This included two home runs, both for more than one run, and an RBI-double to wrap up the day.

1998 – Shocking comeback

After an error by Cincinnati Reds shortstop Barry Larkin allowed the Astros to tie the game in the ninth inning, they tagged the Reds closer for five runs in the ninth to give them a 6-3 win in the tenth inning.

2000 – Homer fest

In an 8-4 win over the Colorado Rockies, Moises Alou, Richard Hidalgo and Tony Eusebio drilled back-to-back-to-back home runs. That was Alou’s second of the night and teammate Jeff Bagwell joined the party later with a home run of his own to cap off the night.

2017 – Welcome Derek Fisher

In his major league debut against the Texas Rangers, new Astros outfielder Derek Fisher hit a home run and an RBI-single in the same nine-run inning to help fuel a 13-2 win. All these runs gave fellow rookie Francis Martes his first big league win after he gave the team five innings of one-run ball.

What else happened on this day?

1965

Cincinnati Reds starter Jim Maloney, who struck out 18 New York Mets hitters in his outing while no-hitting them for 10 innings, takes the loss after a walk-off homer in the 11th inning to lose 1-0.

1966

A game between the Miami Marlins and St. Petersburg Cardinals ends up as the longest baseball game in history up to that point, lasting 29-innings and nearly seven hours, to end in a 4-3 win for Miami.

1990

The MLB announced an extension for the National League that would bring it from 12 teams to 14, including the two newest teams; the Florida Marlins and Colorado Rockies.

1996

Cal Ripken Jr of the Baltimore Orioles establishes himself as an iron horse when he breaks the record for the most consecutive games played, playing in his 2,215th-straight game.

2010

A game between the San Diego Padres and Toronto Blue Jays being played in San Diego was stopped during an earthquake that measured nearly 6.0 on the Richter scale. No damage is done and the game resumes shortly after.
