1965 – Jay Dahl passes
After picking up the win from pitching just the day before, Houston Astros 19-year-old rookie Jay Dahl passed away after a fatal injury in a car crash. He was sitting at 5-0 for the Salisbury Astros before his passing.
1970 – Cedeno’s debut
At 19-years-old, Astros rookie Cesar Cedeno made his major league debut as part of a 9-6 win over the Atlanta Braves. He finished the day with two hits, both a part of the team’s early rally to build a lead.
1992 – The Jones’
On the back of excellent pitching from both Doug and Jimmy Jones (not related), the Astros outlasted the Los Angeles Dodgers 1-0. Jimmy starts the game off with eight shutout frames before Doug came in to close the door.

Bobby Bonds hits a leadoff home run for the Cincinnati Reds, his 22nd all-time, to break Lou Brock’s National League record. Bonds’ record wouldn’t get passed until years later when Astros Craig Biggio would hit his 31st of his 53.
