1972 – What a way to start
To kick off a game between the Houston Astros and San Diego Padres, the first five Astros hits to start the game were all home runs. All these runs do is bring the Astros back to a 7-7 tie, one that they would break soon after and win 14-7.
1988 – Biggio’s debut
Making his major league debut at catcher, Astros rookie Craig Biggio made his MLB debut during a 6-0 win over the San Francisco Giants. Biggio went hitless, but scored the game’s final run after setting himself up by stealing second.

Abner Dalrymple, George Gore and Larry Corcoran, all of the Chicago White Stockings and all all-handed hitters, all bat right-handed in thor game, making them the first switch-hitters in baseball history.

In an effort to change the voting process, the Hall of Fame changed their voting process, allowing the Special Veterans Committee to vote in at least two players into the Hall, rather than being able to vote every other year.

Boston Red Sox pitcher Earl Wilson became the first African-American pitcher in MLB history to throw a no-hitter, blanking the Los Angeles Angels 2-0.

The league voted that, starting in 1969, there will be a 162-game schedule for both leagues, each of which are operating two 6-team divisions.

Organist Wilbur Snapp of the Class A Florida League was ejected after playing Three Blind Mice while waiting for a review. This made national headlines and made Snapp famous.
