Today in Astros history – June 28

June 28, 2025 by The Crawfish Boxes

What happened today in team history?

1966 – Astros first All-Star

Houston Astros infielder Joe Morgan became the first Astros player to ever be named an All-Star Game starter after starting the season hitting .319. Unfortunately, Morgan couldn’t participate in the All-Star Game due to a broken kneecap he suffered just days prior.

1992 – Earthquake in LA

Prior to a game against the Los Angeles Dodgers, an earthquake hit LA that morning, shaking up the Astros and leading to an 8-2 loss. Ken Caminiti was the only Astro that seemed focused at the plate, leading the team with four hits.

2007 – Biggio’s 3000th

During a five-hit performance for Biggio, one of those hits was his 3000th, making him the 27th member to join the club and the first person to do it solely as an Astro. Hit No. 3000 came in the seventh inning and plated Brad Ausmus for one of the Astros eight runs in their 8-5 win over the Colorado Rockies.

What else happened on this day?

1901

Joe Tinker of the Chicago Cubs became the first MLB player to steal home twice in a game, accomplishing this during an 11-1 spanking of the Cincinnati Reds.

1925

Cleveland Indians outfielder Tris Speaker hits his 658th career double, making him the all-time leader. He would finish his career atop that list, finishing with 792.
