What happened today in team history?
1965 – First 10-game win streak
With 6-4 and 6-1 wins over the Chicago Cubs in a double-header, the Houston Astros push their win streak to 10-games for the first time in franchise history. This streak would be highly coveted, not being broken until the 1999 season.
1969 – Back-to-back no-no’s
For just the second time in baseball history, back-to-back no-hitters are thrown. The first came from Cincinnati Reds hurler Jim Maloney against the Astros, and they responded the next day with a no-hitter of their own, this time from Astros Don Wilson. This is the second no-hitter of Wilson’s career already before the age of 25.
2003 – Julio Lugo released
After a domestic abuse charge from the night before was discovered by the team, the Astros parted ways with starting shortstop Julio Lugo on the same day the Astros lost 8-7 to the Atlanta Braves. This loss marked the Astros 14th loss in the last 18 games in a race for the division crown.
