What happened today in team history?
1965 – Astrodome roof
After too many misplays on pop flys in both the infield and outfield, clear plastic panes were put up at the Astrodome, costing around $20,000, to try and get rid of the glare. Due to this lack of lighting getting brought in, this led to the installation of Astroturf the next season.
1981 – Art Howe sets the record
With a triple off Vida Blue, Houston Astros infielder Art Howe set a franchise record with his 23rd-straight game with a hit. The San Francisco Giants still won the game, finishing with a 2-1 win. The only run came from a solo-shot from Luis Pujols.
1994 – Drabek does it all
During an 8-0 shutout of the Atlanta Braves, Astros pitcher Doug Drabek helped the team out around the board, not only firing a three-hit shutout, but helping out himself with three hits and driving in two runs.
1996 – Extra-inning win over the Cubs
Astros outfielder John Cangelosi finished off the Chicago Cubs with an RBI-single in the 10th inning to give the Astros a 8-7 win. Craig Biggio helped out a ton with a ninth-inning two-run blast in the ninth to bring the game to extras.
