Actually a decent year, even if it didn’t always feel like it
It may not have always felt great, but overall, Texas A&M finished with a pretty darn respectable 2024-25 athletic year. Fueled by 11 top 20 NCAA finishes, the Aggies placed No. 15 overall and No. 7 among SEC schools in the final 2024-25 Learfield Directors’ Cup standings. A&M has now finished in the top 25 of the prestigious ranking of overall athletics success 19 consecutive times.
While football, basketball and baseball may be what matters most to fans (and each of those were disappointing in one way or another this year), it shouldn’t take away from the accomplishments across the board in other Aggie sports.
Leading the way was the NCAA Championship by coach Pat Henry’s men’s outdoor track & field team and NCAA runner-up effort by coach Mark Weaver’s women’s tennis team. Other teams contributing NCAA top 10 finishes were women’s outdoor track & field (No. 3), women’s indoor track & field (No. 7), men’s tennis (No. 9), volleyball (No. 9) and men’s indoor track & field (No. 10). Other top 20 NCAA finishes were accomplished by men’s golf (No. 11), men’s swimming & diving (No. 12), men’s basketball (No. 17) and softball (No. 17).
The Aggies are one of 10 teams nationally to finish in the top 25 every season since 2005-06. Joining Texas A&M in the elite group are: Florida, Georgia, Michigan, North Carolina, Ohio State, Stanford, Texas, UCLA and USC.
The Learfield Directors’ Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution’s finish in NCAA Championships.
