Among the 18 Big Ten Uniforms on display at Media Days was Washington’s new Adidas home uniform. The new purple jersey now features a beige and white tri-stripe on each shoulder and a purple and white tri-stripe down the side of the beige pants. The white jersey numbers feature a shiny gold trim, helping the text pop on the uniform. The colorway has received mixed reviews on social media. But up close, this new set looks very sharp. Both Jonah Coleman and Ephesians Prysock commented on the new uniforms and provided some more insight into the new fabric and possible combinations in the future.

“I like ‘em,” Prysock said. “They’re more like the black ones with the alternate colors.” He was referring to the uniform fabric in terms of its comparison with the black alternates from last season. Adidas has a new fabric technology, and last season’s blackout uniforms had it. The new home and away uniforms for the Huskies now utilize that new technology, and Prysock confirmed that at Big Ten Media Days. “I think [the fabric] is a little different [than the old ones], but I like the color-way of them.”

“I feel like adding gold kind of adds to the uniform,” Coleman said, referring to the gold trim on the jersey numbers. “I like ‘em, I feel like the gold outline on the jersey really makes us like, ‘Ok we have gold on our jersey now.’ We just had purple and white with no gold [last year].” Coleman also alluded to having different color combination ideas last season. It sounded like this new uniform may pave the way for future combinations.
“All together we’re able to do a couple more uniform combinations that I had the idea of last year,” he said. “But it was like, ‘Oh, you don’t have gold on your pants or jersey.’”
The previous iteration of Washington’s home uniforms featured a solid purple jersey. The jersey had purple shoulder stripes, white numbers, and no trim color. From Coleman’s comments, the lack of gold accents may have limited the options in terms of uniform combinations. With gold trim now introduced into the home and away uniform, the door might be open to mixing and matching color combinations going forward.
