Former Penguins Andrew Ogletree Drafted sixth round by the Colts

For the first time since 2017, the Youngstown State Penguins had one of their players taken in the NFL Draft.  That player is now former Penguins Andrew Ogletree, drafted in the sixth round (pick 192) by the Indianapolis Colts. The others who were selected beforehand were Derek Rivers and Avery Moss.  Both were drafted in 2017 and played in the FCS championship team that 2016-17 season.

Andrew Ogletree Career Before YSU

Originally a Dayton Ohio native, Ogletree played for Findlay From 2016 to 2019. At Findlay, he caught a total of 54 passes for 785 yards and had 10 touchdowns.  In 2018, Ogletree was named honorable-mention All-G-Mac selection.  However, looking toward the future, he decided to take the next step in Division one football.

Career at YSU

Due to the pandemic, every player was granted an extra year of eligibility.  This meant for Ogletree, he had two seasons to show what he can do to improve YSU.  Even though he did not score a touchdown in his two seasons at Youngstown State, he still showcased his athletic skill.  The offense may have had a down season, but Ogletree still showcased improvement.

His blocking was needed, especially with a height at 6’6.  Not the fastest, but when he could build up speed, you saw him get open a bunch.  His biggest game reception wise came against North Dakota State this past season with five receptions for 70 yards.  His final career stat at Youngstown State had him with 39 receptions and leading the team with 386 yards.  Ogletree participated in the Penguins pro day in the hopes of getting on an NFL roster.

NFL Pro Day Scores/Draft

Ogletree was invited to play in the 2022 Hula Bowl.  In that game, he made a great catch behind the end zone for a touchdown which really built his draft projections up from what they were before, and was named the MVP.

In his Pro Day, Ogletree ran a 4.7 on a 40-yard dash, 35-inch vertical, 121-inch broad jump, and an impressive 26 reps on the bench press.  Some have said that even how long he is to make difficult catches, he can still have a case of the drops sometimes with soft hands, which is going to be an issue unless improved.

Former Penguins Andrew Ogletree Drafted sixth round by the Colts

Ogletree is going to be the second tight drafted by the Colts who selected tight end Jelani Woods and second-round receiver Alec Pierce.  Ogletree is looking to impress the fans of Indianapolis, his local crowd in Dayton Ohio, Youngstown, and especially the Colts new quarterback, Matt Ryan, and coach Frank Reich during camp.
