Texas A&M (47-19) survived their second elimination game yesterday, shutting down the Notre Dame (41-17) offense en route to a 5-1 victory to advance to the “final four” of the College World Series. Their reward? Yet another do-or-die game, this time versus the only team to beat the Aggies in the NCAA Baseball Tournament: the Oklahoma Sooners (44-22). The game starts at 1 p.m. and airs on ESPN. Taking the mound today for the Aggies is freshman Ryan Prager. While he has started 15 games for A&M this season, he has gotten a decision in only four of them, going 1-3 with a 4.89 ERA. While Prager served as a weekend starter throughout the regular season, this is only his second start of the NCAA Tournament, the other being A&M’s win over TCU to win the College Station Regional, where he game up one unearned run with 65 pitches over 2.1 innings. With another potential elimination game on Thursday if the Aggies can pull off the victory, a lengthy start by Prager could go a long way in preserving the bullpen for the innings ahead.
If the Aggies lose, perhaps their greatest season in program history comes to an end today. If they win, they would move on to YET ANOTHER elimination game on Thursday, with a berth in the National Championship Series on the line.
