The top Big 12 naming rights options if the new name had to rhyme with “Big”

A completely serious list

The Big 12 is looking for ways to compete with the big boys financially going forward, and it seems they may need to get creative. News broke on Friday that the conference is seeking a corporate sponsor for the name of the conference, retaining the “12” but replacing the “big.”

The latest conversations within the conference have centered on retaining “12” in the “Big 12” name and removing “Big.”

The corporate sponsor name would replace “Big” – a significant change but one expected to generate hundreds of millions of dollarshttps://t.co/OnTFWFFzDI

I’m sure the conference is open to whichever company will give them the biggest pile of cash, but in the name of retaining brand equity, what if they were a bit more stringent? Say, perhaps, they added a stipulation that the new name had to rhyme with the “Big” of the previous one. That gives us a smaller (and much more entertaining list) of potential suitors:

Nabisco: The Fig 12

Marlboro: The Cig 12

Texas A&M University: The Gig 12

Caterpillar: The Dig 12

Mikoyan Aerospace: The MiG 12

Exxon-Mobil: The Rig 12

Slovacek: The Pig 12

Reebok: The Zig 12
