There’s Another: Jeremiah Smith’s Brother Has Committed to Ohio State

September 22, 2025 by Last Word On College Football

In the history of the Ohio State Buckeyes, there have been few players with such an immediate impact as Jeremiah Smith had last year. He shattered the Buckeyes’ freshman receiving records en route to a 76-catch, 1,315-yard, 15-touchdown breakout campaign. He’s on his way to another impressive season through three games in 2025, but it’s his brother who stole headlines during Ohio State’s off week.

Angelo Smith, a 2027 recruit from Chaminade-Madonna High School in Hollywood, Florida, pledged his athletic future to the Buckeyes on Sunday. While his older brother was the consensus top player of the 2024 class, Angelo is currently a three-star safety recruit. He picked the Buckeyes over Miami (FL), Oklahoma State, and Toledo, the only other programs to extend a scholarship offer (according to 247Sports).

Angelo Smith, Jeremiah Smith’s Brother, Commits to Ohio State

BREAKING: Class of 2027 ATH Angelo Smith has Committed to Ohio State, he tells me for @rivals

Smith is a different prospect than his brother at this point in his recruitment. The five-foot-ten, 170-pound safety is a tad undersized for his position. However, he tends to make up for it with impressive football IQ, according to 247Sports‘ Andrew Ivins. Of course, he is on the younger side relative to the rest of his class, so he has plenty of time to physically develop. While Jeremiah was similar in the sense that he needed to develop a little, he started off as the 15th-ranked player in the composite ratings. Angelo is currently sitting at 400th.

In addition to his football IQ, Smith is impressively physical for his size. He can bring down larger ballcarriers and is a sure tackler in the open field. Last year, he was primarily the single-high free safety, charged with overseeing the whole field. His range and downhill playmaking abilities helped lead Chaminade-Madonna to secure the Florida 1A state championship.

According to MaxPreps, he led the way with 40 tackles, 11 pass breakups, and three interceptions. Through three games this year, Smith has recorded 18 tackles, five tackles for loss, five sacks, two pass breakups, and an interception.

The Ohio State 2027 Class

Smith joins the Buckeyes’ 2027 class in the incredibly early stages of filling out. As of now, Ryan Day has three pledges to the class, with Smith as the lowest rated at this juncture.

As has been commonplace in the Brian Hartline era, Ohio State has an elite wide receiver commit lined up. Jamier Brown has been committed to the Buckeyes since November 23, 2024, well before he was assigned a rating by the top services. Now that he has a rating, Brown is currently considered a four-star recruit and the top receiver in the class. Additionally, he is the top recruit from Ohio and the eighth-best overall.

This is nothing new for the Buckeyes. From 2019 through the 2025 class, the Buckeyes and Harline earned the commitment and subsequent signing of 22 receivers, all of whom were considered at least four-star athletes by 247Sports. Of those 22, seven were five-star. As of now, Ohio State has three four-star recruits at receiver set to sign in December, featuring the fifth and sixth-best players at the position. If Brown continues as the top receiver in the class, he will likely receive that fifth star from all recruiting services.

The other member of the class is four-star quarterback Brady Edmunds. The six-foot-five Californian is currently the 11th-best quarterback in the class and racked up 5,913 yards and 60 touchdowns in his first two seasons as the quarterback at Huntington Beach High School. If his commitment holds, Edmunds looks the part to be the quarterback of the future when he’s on campus.

With the recent addition of Angelo Smith, the Buckeyes’ 2027 is beginning to take shape.
