Another multi-commitment day for Washington on Tuesday, June 25th, brings the total to eight. The Huskies have added eight players to their class of 2025 since Sunday afternoon. Three commitments came on Sunday, June 23rd, on the final day of the big official visit weekend. Three more followed suit on Monday, June 24th, and the haul on Tuesday included the tenth-rated tight end in the nation and an intriguing defensive lineman from the state of Oregon. Washington’s class has now grown to 15 commits, lofting it to the 32nd-ranked class in the nation, and ninth-rated class in the new Big Ten Conference.
Vander Ploog – TE
With the commitment of four-star tight end Vander Ploog, the 2025 Washington class has a new top-dawg. Ploog becomes the highest-rated player of the group with his 0.9196 rating according to the 247Sports Composite. Ploog has played football for just two years and is a multi-sport athlete who also excels in basketball. His six-foot-six-inch and 210-pound frame is impactful on the hardwood. But what he does as a pass-catcher for Troy High School in California had the attention of many teams nationwide. Ploog officially visited Washington back in early May and followed that up with trips to Arizona State and Utah, among others. Utah was pushing hard for the top prospect, but on Tuesday he pledged to play for Washington.
His junior season in 2023 was just his second on the football field, and he filled the stats column. Ploog finished the season with 1,047 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns. He had five scores the year prior, and figures to have another high-performing season this fall. Though Ploog is being recruited as a tight end, he lined up at receiver in high school. His athleticism as a three-sport athlete shows in his tape as he can out-physical defenders and move vertically with ease. Ploog also has a physical aspect to his game. He’s tough to bring down and can drag defenders to fight for the extra yard. Ploog also punts for his high school, averaging 40 yards per kick. Washington is getting an all-around athlete with Ploog. He becomes the second tight end in the class with four stars next to his name.
Dominic Macon – DL
Washington already took the best player from its rival state of Oregon, and it just landed the commitment of another Oregon native in three-star defensive lineman Dominic Macon. He’s the eighth-ranked player from the Beaver State. Like Ploog, Macon is a multi-sport athlete himself. The defensive lineman also wrestles for Adrienne C. Nelson High School. As a junior, Macon went undefeated on the wrestling mat in the heavyweight class. At six-foot-three-inches and right at 300 pounds, Macon won the state title this past winter.
On the football field, Macon is already an imposing figure on the interior defensive line at the high school level. He projects as a defensive tackle or zero technique, with the physicality and size to be effective in run-stuffing up front. Macon’s high school tape shows a player who uses that size and athleticism to punch through the offensive line. He routinely finds the backfield, creating havoc for opposing offenses. Macon takes up space and can even handle a double team while still causing damage. With his size and the mobility he has from his wrestling background, Macon has an opportunity to develop into a prominent player at the point of attack for Washington.
