Vegas Insults the SEC “A Little Bit”: 2025 SEC Win Totals

May 27, 2025 by Last Word On College Football

Goodfellas is leaving Netflix on June 1st. It’s one of our favorite movies at Last Word. Who doesn’t love how Paulie slices garlic? We will save the food portion for Kate’s Tailgate recipes this season. So, besides always wanting to be a Goodfella, what does the movie do with the SEC? Vegas has posted the 2025 SEC win totals.  The numbers are something to see, and SEC fans could feel some disrespect. If we were to ask Jimmy Conway, even he might agree that Vegas “insulted him (the SEC) a little bit.” So, before we ask anyone to grab their shine box, let’s look at the 2025 SEC win totals courtesy of FanDuel.

“I Like Going This Way. It’s Better Than Waiting in Line”

Henry is leading Karen through the back entrance of the Copacabana. Not only is it a key move to impress your date, but it is also iconic cinematography that they study in film school. As we look at the top CFB Playoff contenders for 2025, the SEC has three teams vying for the top spot: Alabama, Georgia, and Texas. Those are household names in the SEC, and there is an expectation that they are on top. What is shocking is that nobody is predicted to have double-digit wins. (We told you there was going to be some disrespect. The Longhorns are getting plenty of preseason love, while the Tide and Dawgs still have many questions to answer.

Alabama 9.5

Kalen DeBoer’s year one was not great. Sure, they walloped Georgia, but Alabama doesn’t miss the playoffs. The bowl game loss to Michigan was salt in the wound. It would be advised that Alabama hit the over and make the playoffs.

Georgia 9.5

The defending SEC Champion should feel good about 2024. Three losses, though, are not the standard. The Dawgs have a great home slate between the hedges this season, but will have plenty of new faces on offense. Should we give Kirby Smart the same benefit of the doubt we gave Saban?

Texas 9.5

Year one in the SEC went pretty good for Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns. Sure, they couldn’t beat Georgia, but they still made the SEC Championship and were driving to tie the game in the College Football Playoff semifinal. Now it’s Arch Manning time in Austin. 9.5 wins seem low, especially with a relatively weak schedule, save for an early kick in Columbus to start the season.

“As Far Back as I Can Remember, I Always Wanted To Be a Gangster.”

Henry Hill always wanted to be a gangster. The SEC teams that follow also want to be in the Goodfellas category. Let’s be honest, they should all be competing for an SEC Championship and a deep playoff run. Instead, we see more questions than certainties when we look at the 2025 SEC win totals. Nobody would be shocked to see one or two of these teams find their way to the top of the list.

LSU 8.5

It’s time for Brian Kelly to prove himself to the Fam-I-Leee. Kelly came to Baton Rouge because he wanted to be in a place that had the resources to win a national championship. 2024 was pretty awkward for Kelly and the Tigers when his former team, Notre Dame, hosted the first-ever College Football Playoff game and came up just short in the national championship to Ohio State. Kelly has been good at LSU, posting nine and ten-win seasons. But that is not the standard at LSU. The Tigers expect championships and to be on the elite SEC list. The Tigers open on the road at media darling Clemson. Kelly would be well-advised to have his team ready and not lay an egg again against another ACC opponent to open the season.

Ole Miss 8.5

Vegas doesn’t see a party in the Sip in 2025. Ole Miss has had plenty of roster turnover; we will see if Lane Kiffin can continue his double-digit win streaks. The schedule is favorable, and Austin Simmons seems poised to pick up where Jaxson Dart left off. Can Kiffin keep the Rebels focused? The Kentucky and Florida losses were not what we have come to expect from the new look Rebels.

Tennessee 8.5

The Volunteers should be celebrating. They turned a two-loss season into a spot in the College Football Playoff. With the conferences now deciding straight seeding, Tennessee would have had a home game rather than traveling to Columbus. The upheaval around Nico Iamaleava’s sudden departure raised questions by 2025. Josh Heupel has done a good job in Knoxville, and the quarterback change may be an addition by subtraction.

“I’m Funny How, I Mean, Funny Like I’m a Clown, I Amuse You?”

Now we come to the SEC middle tier. The disrespect is strong or can be perceived as strong. The teams in this tier have fans who have (un)realistic expectations. Some have played and won SEC and/or national championships. A couple have not, but theoretically should be. They are amusing, too. They can beat anybody above them on the list, but have also shown the ability to lose to anybody below them. These coaches will warm the seats.

Auburn 7.5

They are still waiting for the Hugh Freeze bump on The Plains. War Damn Eagle is ready to be back amongst the SEC elite. Too bad Freeze doesn’t think so. Here is what he had to say about Auburn’s 2025 outlook. “I’m not a fool. I think we’ve got to go to a bowl game.”

Florida 7.5

Billy Napier’s fate lies in the hands of DJ Lagway. If the sophomore meets the hype, Napier and the Gators will climb. If not, it’s time to hit the reset button in Gainesville again.

Missouri 7.5

Eliah Drinkwitz is one of the best coaches in the SEC. That is not a typo. Missouri is a weird fit in the conference and doesn’t have the pedigree of the Goodfella tier. Drink still gets more with less and continues to punch up. What could he do with Auburn or Florida resources? We may find out in 2026.

South Carolina 7.5

Shane Beamer’s time in Columbia has been a bit of a roller coaster—ups and downs. Like Napier’s, Beamer’s, and the Gamecocks’ 2025 fate rests in his quarterback’s hands. LaNorris Sellers did well in year one in Columbia. Plenty of new faces will exist, but a dynamic quarterback can hide and cover up some of those deficiencies.

Texas A&M 7.5

What happened to the 12th Man? The Aggies were going to be different with Mike Elko. Instead, they finished 8-5, like they always do. What changes in 2025?

“Go Get Your Shine Box”

The hot seat corner. This is the bottom tier of the 2025 SEC win totals.

Oklahoma 6.5

Since Brent Venables came to Oklahoma, there has been a revolving door for players and coordinators in Norman. John Mateer at quarterback and Jim Nagy at GM are nice additions, but they won’t be enough for the Sooners.

Arkansas 5.5

Sam Pittman likes to be disrespected. He is a fighter and a climber. Look for him and the Razorbacks to claw their way out of the bottom.

Kentucky 4.5

Mark Stoops’ time in Lexington may be done. He has done good work, but he may have hit his ceiling. Will Jon Sumrall come home if Mama calls in December?

Vanderbilt 4.5

2024 was fun. 2025 will be back to reality.

Mississippi State 3.5

Stark Vegas misses the pirate. Jeff Lebby is not Mike Leach. Who can bring back the cowbell?
