Happy Thanksgiving. Now that we won’t have any Egg Bowl for dessert on Thursday, we will have to settle in for some top-notch rivalry games to close out the regular season slate. Before we get into the Week 14 SEC slate, let’s take a look at where we stand in the College Football Playoff and the SEC Championship (yes, that still matters) heading into the weekend.
Give me Five: College Football Playoff Rankings
The SEC locked out five of the 12 spots in this week’s College Football Playoff Rankings. Texas A&M (3) and Georgia (4) would earn first-round byes if the games started this weekend. Look for Texas Tech to move into the Top 4 if they can win and secure the Big 12 Championship. The loser of the B1G or SEC championship finds their way out of the bye. Ole Miss (7), Oklahoma (8), and Alabama (10) round out the Top 12. An Ole Miss vs. Alabama tilt in Oxford will surely draw some eyeballs, and it gets even more juicy if Lane Kiffin stays in Oxford for 2026. Vandy (14) and Texas (16) have a slim-and-none chance of getting in, but slim seems to be exiting stage left… unless Arch and the Horns can make a statement on Friday night.
SEC Championship Scenarios
There has been too much talk and too much banter about teams (like Georgia) not making the SEC Championship game so they can get an extra week of rest. That’s just a dumb, no good, very bad take. In the words of Herm Edwards, “you play to win the game.” Sure, playing and winning the SEC Championship cost Georgia Carson Beck last year. But who is to say he would have fared any better than Gunner Stockton in the Sugar Bowl? Unlike the other conferences, making it to Atlanta is special, and winning the SEC means something. This ain’t intramurals, brother, go play in the SEC Championship. Here are the tiebreakers and scenarios for who will make the SEC Championship heading into the Week 14 SEC slate.
- Alabama: The Tide has the easiest path. In the words of Al Davis, “just win baby.” A win and they’re in.
- Texas A&M: The Aggies, too, just have to win (in Austin… no pressure). Texas A&M can also get in with an Alabama and Ole Miss loss. Maybe just win, ok?
- Georgia: The Dawgs can get a chance to defend their title with either an Alabama or Texas A&M loss. Good thing they are both not on the road where they struggle. Oh wait, they are….somewhere Kirby Smart is grinning and sticking his tongue out.
- Ole Miss: The Rebs will don anything (to try) to keep Lane. A win in the Egg Bowl, combined with an Alabama and Texas A&M loss, and Lane (or interim Head Coach Joe Judge) gets another shot at Georgia.
Pick: Georgia vs. Alabama. Just like it’s always been.

Week 13 Picks
Stop trying to be cute and just pick the winners. That was my advice to myself last week. OU, Tennessee, and Vandy all looked ripe for the upset, or so I thought. They went 3-0. So, let’s get to the Week 14 picks and see if we can’t get back in the winning column.
- Week 12: 2-2
- YTD: 37-24
No. 6 Ole Miss vs. Mississippi State
Well, we have no shortage of drama heading into the Egg Bowl. Lane continues to dominate the airwaves, but has stopped tweeting. Hopefully, hot yoga has been helping him relax. The Rebels are playing at a high level, and the fighting Cowbells still seem at least a year away. Look for Kiffin to do his best Jordan Belfort and proclaim he is not going anywhere after securing the Egg Bowl win on Friday afternoon.
Pick: Ole Miss
No. 4 Georgia vs. No. 16 Georgia Tech
Clean Old Fashioned Hate from Atlanta? Georgia Tech and Georgia face off 1.6 miles south of Bobby Dodd Stadium, where the game should be played. Neutral site games stink, and this one takes the cake. Georgia Tech’s defense is in shambles right now, but Haynes King and Buster Faulkner will have enough RPO magic to make this one interesting before they are put away with a 2025 Georgia Death March in the fourth quarter.
Pick: Georgia
No. Texas A&M vs. No. 17 Texas
The Aggies finally get to play an SEC team with a winning record. Talk about a cupcake schedule. Texas A&M comes in 11-0 and flying high to Austin as they play the enigma that is Texas. The Aggies’ defense can be very good or very porous. They have shown both plenty of times this year. Texas has failed to live up to the preseason #1 hype, but Arch and Sark may have one more trick up their sleeve. Look for this one to come down to who has the ball last in the fourth quarter.
Pick: Texas
LSU vs. No. 8 Oklahoma
It’s simple for the Sooners. Win, and you’re in. The Sooners are facing a dysfunctional Tigers team that cannot seem to score or move the ball. The Sooners have had their own challenges on offense; the John Mateer and Ben Arbuckle magic has lost some of its shine, but the OU defense has been stellar and should give the Tigers fits. Oklahoma returns to the College Football Playoff with a home game in Norman.
Pick: Oklahoma
No. 14 Vanderbilt vs. No. 20 Tennessee
This one should be on ABC. Sure, LSU and Oklahoma made sense in the preseason on ABC, but Vandy and Tennessee should put together a shootout on Saturday afternoon in Knoxville. Diego Pavia is playing like a man possessed, doing his best to will the Dores into the playoffs. Joey Aguillar has been impressive, but let’s face it. Tennessee is lacking a signature win. Why are they ranked 18? An upset win over Vandy would be a nice response after a tumultuous season for Josh Heupel.
Pick: Tennessee
No. 10 Alabama vs. Auburn
What a way to recap the Week 14 SEC slate and conclude the regular season. The Iron Bowl at Jordan Hare. That’s all that stands in the way of Alabama getting back to Atlanta and securing its spot in the playoff. If it becomes a house of horrors, look for Kalen Boer to take his talents to Happy Valley. That will likely not be necessary. Look for Ty Simpson and his Tide receivers to have a big day against a shaky back seven for the Tigers.
Pick: Alabama
