Class of 2026 guard Seven Spurlock recaps summer AAU season, updates recruitment

NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. — With Peach Jam play over with, all eyes turn to the late-summer recruitment season for high school prospects across the nation. For class of 2026 guard Seven Spurlock, the next step is to visit the campuses of the key schools remaining in his recruitment process.

“I just want to do everything before my basketball season starts so I don’t have to think about everything,” he told ZAGSBLOG.

Spurlock is preparing for a big year at Prolific Prep with five-star names like Caleb Holt and Bruce Branch III joining him in Fort Lauderdale.

“I feel like we can win a national championship,” Spurlock said. “I feel like it’s going to be a great year. We got a chance to go undefeated with Caleb Holt, and everybody else that’s coming with him. Davion [Adkins] is also from Texas, so I feel like we can do a lot of big things.”

Before then, Spurlock hopes to decide on his future school. At this point in his recruitment, Spurlock said he’s heard the most from Houston, Iowa, Maryland, TCU, Texas A&M and Vanderbilt. He hasn’t taken any official visits but plans to see TCU and Maryland soon. He also said Virginia recently reached out. The unofficials Spurlock has taken includes Iowa, Oklahoma State and Texas A&M, all in the fall of 2024.

Here’s what he said about some of the schools involved:

Houston: “They’re pretty good. Mike [Ekanem], leaving Oklahoma State, he reached out to me right when he got to Houston. So I was like ok, he wants me. I like how they just guard hard and everyone around them is built to be dogs. And they all play hard and they’re just a winning program.”

Iowa: “Iowa with the new staff is very different, but l’m just getting to know them as everything goes on.”

Maryland: “[Buzz Williams] coming from Texas A&M, they were recruiting me hard at Texas A&M. My visit [to Texas A&M] was very fun, and it was just a great visit.”

TCU: “When I went on my unofficial, they treated me like a family. It was just like I was right at home, and they’re playing style fits me very well. I just like how they play and the coaches talk to me a lot.”

Texas A&M: “It’s pretty cool. I just know [Bucky McMillan’s] coached a lot of winners. He loves to win, and I know the Texas A&M culture.”

Vanderbilt: “They seem pretty cool. I want to go on a visit there. One of my friends [Jaylon Dean-Vines] actually just went there from Dallas, and I just want to get to know them as well. Hopefully I can set up a visit there.”

At Peach Jam, ZAGSBLOG spotted Maryland’s Buzz Williams, Texas A&M’s Bucky McMillan, Vanderbilt’s Mark Byington, Virginia’s Ryan Odom and assistants from Houston and TCU courtside to watch Spurlock play. The guard averaged 9.0 points, 5.2 rebounds and 2.4 assists at Peach Jam. He showcased his ability to be a primary ball handler and often ran the one. Spurlock said driving downhill and passing of two feet are two of his best traits.

Spurlock hopes to find a program that treats him like family.

“Just where I can just be myself and the coach brings me in as his own,” he said.

Spurlock is the No. 218 overall prospect in the 2026 recruiting class per 247Sports, giving him three-star status. His favorite NBA player is LeBron James, he enjoys gaming and his favorite basketball memory is Darryn Peterson’s buzzer-beater at Chipotle Nationals.
