ESPN Computer's Preseason College Basketball Top 25

May 3, 2022 by The Spun Leave a Comment

With the 2021-22 college basketball season set to tip off this Tuesday, ESPN’s College Basketball Power Index has ranked every Division I team in the country.

Gonzaga is the top-ranked team in the AP poll coming into this season, but the Bulldogs are actually the third-ranked team when it comes to the College Basketball Power Index.

As of now, the BPI has Villanova ranked as the No. 1 team in college basketball. The Wildcats should be a contender this season as long as Collin Gillespie stays healthy.

Illinois is currently the No. 2 team in the country, according to the BPI. Andre Curbelo, Kofi Cockburn, Trent Frazier and Da’Monte Williams are ready to bounce back from last year’s disappointing finish.

Here are the top 25 teams in the country, per ESPN’s College Basketball Power Index:

  1. Villanova
  2. Illinois
  3. Gonzaga
  4. Kentucky
  5. Houston
  6. Kansas
  7. UCLA
  8. Purdue
  9. Tennessee
  10. Michigan
  11. Baylor
  12. Ohio State
  13. UConn
  14. Duke
  15. Oregon
  16. Louisville
  17. West Virginia
  18. Richmond
  19. Arkansas
  20. Florida
  21. Seton Hall
  22. Memphis
  23. San Diego State
  24. Iowa
  25. Texas

The College Basketball Power Index should look much different after the first week of the season is over, especially since there are some marquee matchups on tap this Tuesday.

Kansas and Michigan State will square off during the first game of the State Farm Champions Classic on Tuesday night, with Duke and Kentucky going head-to-head in the second game.

It should be a really exciting season, as there are a plethora of teams that have the firepower to make a deep run in March.
