Roughly six months after he was a revelation at Peach Jam with his long range shooting prowess, Class of 2027 Montverde Academy (FL) guard O’Neal Delancy has become a highly acclaimed national recruit.
A consistent scoring threat on a gritty Montverde team which pulled off an upset of loaded Prolific Prep (FL) last month, Delancy will visit University of Florida on Feb. 28th.
“I’m very excited for the upcoming UF visit,” Delancy said Monday.
“I’m hearing from UF, South Florida, Miami, Houston, Maryland, Cleveland State, FSU, Stanford, LSU, and Mississippi State (the most).”
Delancy’s visit to Gainesville will be highlighted by the No.19 Gators’ marquee SEC matchup with No.15 Arkansas at the O’Connell Center.
The reigning national champions are currently 14-6 and 5-2 in the formidable SEC.
A St. Petersburg, Fla. native, Delancy previously visited Florida a few months back.
Florida State was initially jockeying for the front runner position in his recruitment, albeit now appears Delancy has several enticing future options in the sun soaked State.
The 6-foot-3 Delancy registered his presence instantly during Peach Jam, erupting for a 35-point scoring spree, on the strength of 8-for-12 from 3-point territory, during his Florida Rebels team’s 75-56 victory over Nightrydas in 16U action.
He has been a reliable scoring source at Montverde, where his backcourt teammate and Kent State-commit Dhani Miller is having a breakout season as a do-it-all guard. As he continues to develop under head coach Steve Turner, Delancy is working at cementing his status as a two-way presence.
“I am continuing to work on defense,” Delancy said.
“Also knocking down big shots, communicating , rebounding, and working on my physicality to be prepared for the next level.”
