A look at the Houston Texans’ 2025 opponents

February 10, 2025 by Texans Wire

The 2024 NFL season is officially in the books, and the Houston Texans are at a crossroads under the current regime entering an important 2025 offseason.

After the Texans parted ways with Bobby Slowik and hired Nick Caley as the new offensive coordinator, the focus has shifted to shoring up the roster. Houston has some major holes to fix, most notably in the trenches after allowing C.J. Stroud to be the second-most sacked quarterback in 2024.

Fans might not know when the Texans will be playing, but they know who will be on the schedule for the 2025 season (dates to be determined in May).

In addition to facing their AFC South foes twice, the Texans will play the NFC West and AFC West next season, which includes home games against the Denver Broncos and Arizona Cardinals, along with away games against both Los Angeles teams.

With the Texans securing a second division title, they’ll also face the same-place finisher in the AFC East and AFC North. With that additional 17th game, they’ll face the NFC South same-place finisher on the road.

Here’s a quick look at which teams the Texans will play — both home and away — next season.

Texans’ home opponents

  • Indianapolis Colts*
  • Tennessee Titans*
  • Jacksonville Jaguars*
  • Tampa Bay Buccaneers
  • Buffalo Bills
  • San Francisco 49ers
  • Arizona Cardinals
  • Las Vegas Raiders
  • Denver Broncos

Bears’ away opponents

  • Baltimore Ravens

  • Tennessee Titans*
  • Jacksonville Jaguars*
  • Los Angeles Rams
  • Los Angeles Chargers
  • Kansas City Chiefs
  • Seattle Seahawks

Initial analysis

At first glance, the Texans should be in good standing to win the division for a third consecutive year. Yes, they still must face Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson, but Houston’s trading out the NFC North for the NFC West.

Deebo Samuel won’t be back in San Francisco after the 49ers told him he could look for a trade partner. The Seahawks are losing talent in the offseason after a 10-win season. What should fans expect of the Rams next year with an aging Matthew Stafford?

The same goes for the AFC West. Travis Kelce is hinting at retirement entering the offseason, meaning that Kansas City is losing its best weapon since Tony Gonzalez. The Raiders are going into a rebuild under longtime coach Pete Carroll. What version of Denver responds in 2025: the one that landed a 10-win season this past fall or a sophomore slump headlined by Bo Nix?

Yes, the division will look different. Tennessee is expected to add a quarterback this offseason, though Sam Darnold might be in play over the No. 1 overall pick. The Colts are giving the current regime one last shot to fix their woes, but with $30 million in cap space, they should spend.

Jacksonville is a wild card. On paper, the offense has the pieces to contend right away with the return of a healthy Trevor Lawrence, Evan Engram and Christian Kirk. Brian Thomas Jr. was also perhaps the league’s most underappreciated receiver after hauling in 87 passes for over 1,200 yards while scoring 10 TDs.

Houston should compete for the division. The Texans should also once again feel like 10-12 wins is possible.
