After acquiring John Metchie in a trade, the Philadelphia Eagles could part ways with at least one of the wide receivers in Jahan Dotson before the 2025 campaign starts. According to the breaking news, the Eagles will receive Metchie and will send tight end Harrison Bryant to the Texans in an exchange package. It might be far from over for the Eagles, as they could release Dotson from his contract since he’s coming off one of the worst seasons last year. Despite him being a reliable contributor in the Super Bowl, he hasn’t been able to consistently be a reliable receiver who can get open for quarterback Jalen Hurts in the aerial attack.
Originally selected in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft, the former Penn State product was brought into the Eagles for depth in the receiver room, since it was only AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith who have been consistently the route runners for this offense. Even though the team has been reliant on running back Saquon Barkley, the Eagles couldn’t afford to depend on Smith and Brown for most of the catches, but that was the case despite Dotson’s presence. The Eagles probably traded for Metchie due to Brown’s hamstring injury, but either way, this trade could signal that maybe the team could be moving away from Dotson. Here are some possible destinations if the Eagles decide to cut him right before the start of the regular season.

Next Possible Fits
Los Angeles Chargers
Despite bringing back one of the former wide receivers, Keenan Allen, the Chargers should be open to adding another offensive weapon. Quentin Johnston suffered a concussion this past preseason game, so that leaves Allen, Ladd McConkey, KeAndre Lambert-Smith and Tre Harris as the frontrunners for this unit. While Allen is great, he is arguably not in his prime anymore. Dotson is the better upgrade over Jalen Reagor, who is a cut candidate this offseason, so they should find a way to sign him once he becomes a free agent.
Baltimore Ravens
Meanwhile, the Baltimore Ravens have all the right weapons for quarterback Lamar Jackson to win a Super Bowl. Between Zay Flowers, Rashod Bateman and DeAndre Hopkins, the Ravens could afford adding one last receiver like icing on top. Dotson isn’t going to drastically improve the passing attack, but it gives Jackson plenty of options to stretch the field.
Pittsburgh Steelers
The Pittsburgh Steelers are still looking for a WR2 alongside DK Metcalf, but they might have to settle in this situation. Dotson is more of a WR3 depending on the situation of the depth chart, but when you have Robert Woods and Scotty Miller as your only depth additions, it’s concerning for the Steelers. Roman Wilson and Calvin Austin are the future of this offensive pass game, but it wouldn’t hurt to add Dotson in the mix while Aaron Rodgers is still around.
Dallas Cowboys
However, the Dallas Cowboys lost one of their wide receivers, Jonathan Mingo, to a potential season-ending injury. While the team still has its two top dynamic playmakers in CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens, they still has a hole in its receiver room. Jalen Tolbert is entering the final year of his contract, and the presence of Dotson could open the slot up to give much-needed separation for both.
