Breaking: Former Texans Third-Round Bust Could Be On Trade Block

October 12, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

After spending the past three seasons with the Houston Texans, it might be time for linebacker Christian Harris to move, and the team could make him available on the trade block. According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, he believes the Texans should trade him since he’s in his contract year and hasn’t been able to do much this season. Originally selected in the 2022 NFL Draft, the former Alabama product has dealt with injury issues this past offseason. Even though he was able to return to full health, he saw a significant decline in snap shares this season, which is a substantial change and likely signals that the team could be preparing to move on.

At age 24, Harris could join any team, as the expectation is that he will generate interest. The Texans are likely not going to be a postseason contender this year, so they’d be doing him a favor either way. While any team could acquire him in a trade, the same roster could look into a possible extension if he can get things back up to speed. Harris isn’t the most explosive defensive playmaker like Maxx Crosby or Trey Hendrickson, but his rookie deal makes him an intriguing name in the market if the Texans make him available. The linebacker did have an impactful campaign in his first season in the league, recording a career-high of 101 tackles, two sacks and seven pass deflections.

These teams could roll the dice and take a chance on him to see what type of potential he has in the tank.

Possible Next Teams

Dallas Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys have one of the best offenses in the league, and this might be one of the best that everyone is seeing in Dak Prescott. As long as their offense remains intact with a returning CeeDee Lamb in their aerial attack, they shouldn’t have a problem having a winning record this season. However, the only thing stopping them is the pass-rush. Ever since they traded away Micah Parsons in August, the defense could use some help, and while they were able to stop the Jets, they can’t afford to get too ahead of themselves.

The good news is that Jerry Jones is open for business, and a trade might be coming at any moment in the next few weeks. The Cowboys did trade for Kenneth Murray Jr. this past offseason, but they haven’t seen much production from free agent acquisition Jack Sanborn. They’re in dire need of help for Shemar James and Marist Liufau in the depth chart, and even though Harris is unproven, it’s better than what they have on their roster.

Carolina Panthers

Meanwhile, the Carolina Panthers might not be the winning team this season, but it shouldn’t stop them from making a few upgrades on defense. After releasing Jadeveon Clowney and Josey Jewell this past offseason, the Panthers haven’t made any replacements in their former positions. Harris might not get the starting role immediately, but if rumors are true, he could emerge as a reliable starter if DJ Wonnum leaves in free agency this upcoming offseason.

New England Patriots

The New England Patriots are in the best spot as a football team after defeating the once-unbeaten Buffalo Bills. While they’re in search of keeping tabs on AJ Brown for their receiving unit, they could use some linebacker depth. Anfernee Jennings is nursing an injury, and even though Jahlani Tavai returned, head coach Mike Vrabel is always making adjustments, and this might be a midseason trade he could trigger in getting Harris a part of the unit.
