BREAKING: Texans fire offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik

Now DeMeco Ryans has two offensive coaching vacancies to fill.

The Houston Texans have made another change to their coaching staff. In addition to letting offensive line coach Chris Strausser go, they have also notified former Texans offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik that he will not be a part of the team next season.

A major change in Houston: The #Texans are moving on from offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik, sources say, after an up-and-down offensive season.

Slowik was offensive coordinator for the Texans for the last two seasons. After following up last year’s breakout performance with a disappointing 2024-25 season, it was clear that something needed to change on the offensive side of the ball.

The offense looked stagnant for long stretches of the year, several times Slowik would call plays that left Texans fans scratching their heads (looking at you, incessant failed WR screens), and this is all despite having added talent in the WR and RB corps while also keeping the same offensive line as last season.

There were few excuses to be had for Slowik.

That all being said, I’m still a little surprised that the Texans went and made the move they did. Not because Slowik didn’t deserve to be fired; he absolutely did for all the reasons listed. But because, historically, the Texans are slow to make these kinds of changes; especially when the coach is a branch of the Kubiak coaching tree, where loyalty, even in the face of overwhelming mediocrity, is still highly prized. It’s, dare I say, refreshing to see a Texans coach, let alone a Kubiak-influenced coach, make such a quick move to fix an obvious, glaring issue.

I hope Slowik is able to land on his feet somewhere, though, just as long as he lays an egg whenever he faces the Texans

So how are we feeling Texans fans? Happy to see the end of the Slowik era? Who do you want to see take over for him at OC? Who do you think WILL take the OC job in his place?
