For the second time this week, the Houston Texans have signed a veteran running back to their roster for the 2022 season.
On Thursday, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport announced that the Texans are signing Royce Freeman to a one-year deal.
Freeman spent seven games with the Texans last season. He had 92 rushing yards and 62 receiving yards in limited action.
Overall, Freeman has managed to rack up just over 1,300 rushing yards in his NFL career. As a rookie, he had over 500 yards and five scores on the ground with the Denver Broncos.
One day ago, the Texans signed running back Dare Ogunbowale to a two-year, $3.3 million contract.
Since entering the NFL in 2017, Ogunbowale has 299 rushing yards and three scores on 86 carries. He also has 58 catches for 454 yards and a touchdown.
The Texans have plenty of veteran options in their backfield, but they’re still missing an explosive runner capable of handling a large workload.
Perhaps the Texans will address the running back position later this year during the NFL Draft.
