The Texans’ first pick in the 2021 NFL Draft is now officially a team employee.

Like many Texans fans, I was stunned when the team selected Davis Mills (QB—Stanford) with its first pick, albeit in the third round, of the 2021 NFL Draft. That’s not to say Mills can’t be a good NFL quarterback; I simply thought the team would use its most premium of draft assets this year to address one of any number of other positions that are sorely lacking on the roster.

Nick Caserio, a professional football general manager, saw things differently than me. Naturally, there’s a reason I’m sitting here typing about roster decisions and he’s the one actually making those decisions, so all benefit of the doubt should be given to Caserio until he gives us a reason not to trust him. No matter what you think of Davis Mills’ future with the Texans, Mills is now officially a member of the organization, having signed a four-year deal worth $5.22 million this morning.

Mills’ written oath to perform football services for the Texans means Houston’s entire 2021 draft class is now under contract. Congratulations to all five of those gentlemen for finally getting paid to play football for a living.
