J.J. Watt Clarifies What It’d Take For Him To Come Out Of Retirement

It’s been about 18 months since J.J. Watt played his final down in the NFL and another two years since he last played for his beloved Houston Texans. But at 35 years of age and still in relatively good shape, is a return from retirement a possibility?

Appearing on the Pat McAfee Show, the three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year didn’t completely rule it out. He made it clear that if the Texans “needed somebody” to help them at some point, he would be willing to do it.

“It’s the exact same situation as last year… If they really needed somebody to come in and help out I would do that,” Watt said.

Clearly Watt sees himself as more of an emergency option than a player who is ready to start and play right away.

Watt said that while he loves football, he’s “so content” with what he’s doing and where he’s at in life right now.

“The thought of playing football again is obviously incredible… Playing football is the best feeling in the world but I’m so content with where I’m at right now,” he added.

Some fans desperately want Watt back, believing he can recapture the magic that he had in Houston for nearly a decade. Others think it’s a bad idea and fear for his health if he returns after two years without constant NFL conditioning.

As it stands though, Watt is slated to join the CBS’s NFL Sunday pregame show. He’s got a lot on his plate but pads aren’t there right now.
