Jaguars Demoted First-Round Pick Could Be Trade Target

June 30, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

Jacksonville Jaguars right tackle Anton Harrison has not played up to his first-round pedigree, and the new regime could trade him if he doesn’t improve in the coming months. Selected out of Oklahoma, Harrison earned a starting job right away but never played particularly well. After finishing his rookie season with an abysmal 53.0 PFF grade, he finished the 2024 season with a 64.2 mark, the 50th-best grade out of 81 eligible players. Now playing under a coach that didn’t select him, ESPN’s Michael DiRocco notes Harrison is splitting reps with free agent signee Chuma Edoga.

Only time will tell who wins this battle, but the fact that a first-round pick like Harrison is battling for his job in the first place does not bode well for his future. Perhaps he can win the right tackle battle and save his job, but there’s a decent chance the Jaguars move on from Anton Harrison. Perhaps another team gives him a shot at tackle, but there’s a real chance he’ll need to move to guard to keep starting in this league.

“When Anton wants to go, he can go,” head coach Liam Coen said. “[It’s] just consistently doing it on a day-in, day-out basis.”

Jaguars Could Trade Anton Harrison After Possible Demotion

Best Fits

Houston Texans

The Houston Texans have perhaps the worst offensive line in the league, which is terrible news for third-year quarterback C.J. Stroud. Going back to his days in college, Stroud’s biggest weakness has always been performing in a messy pocket. While Houston has several promising wide receivers on the roster, they need someone to keep him upright for the season. The Jaguars might not want to trade Anton Harrison to a division rival, but Houston will probably give the largest return for the first-round pick.

Baltimore Ravens

The Baltimore Ravens are all set at tackle, but they desperately need to find starting-caliber guards. Andrew Vorhees and Daniel Faalele are both below-average starters, and an Anton Harrison trade could give the Ravens some upside at the position. Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry are already the league’s most dangerous rushing duo, so just imagine what these two could do with another blocker capable of clearing holes in the trenches.

Kansas City Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs offensive line is a bit of a question mark at the moment. While first-round pick Josh Simmons should be healthy enough to play left tackle, the reigning AFC champions do not have an answer at left guard. Second-round pick Kingsley Suamataia will make the transition after disappointing at tackle as a rookie, but nobody knows if he can adequately fill Joe Thuney’s shoes. If they acquire him from the Jaguars, Anton Harrison could provide some security at the position while providing tackle depth in case right tackle Jawaan Taylor continues to disappoint.
