Brett Veach and the Kansas City Chiefs aren’t done re-working their defensive backfield. On Monday, the team made a trade with the Houston Texans, acquiring cornerback Lonnie Johnson in exchange for a seventh-round pick.

Per Ian Rapoport, “The Texans traded DB Lonnie Johnson Jr. to the Chiefs for a 2024 conditional 7th round pick.”

The NFL world reacted to the Chiefs newest addition on social media.

“The Texans organization = HORRIFIC at their job,” one fan replied.

“WOW,” another user tweeted in all-caps. “A 7th????”

“Veach is on [an] unstoppable roll right now!” a Chiefs fan commented.

“Lonnie hasn’t been particularly good, so [I’m] not expecting much at all,” another user said. “My guess is the conditions are if he makes the final 53. If he sucks, they cut him and no harm done.”

“A conditional seventh two years from now is maybe the smallest currency the NFL has for a trade,” tweeted The Athletic’s Greg Auman.

“We just nabbed a starting CB for a 7th round pick in 2024,” a Chiefs fan responded. “Veach keeps striking and I am sure he isn’t done.”

“Do the other teams just want us to win the Super Bowl,” another asked.

A very hopeful past five days for the Chiefs.
