Who is legend?

Saw a Tweet (an X? what?) from the fine folks at Texans Fan Battle Podcast that said Brian Cushing should be the next person inducted into the Houston Texans Ring of Honor. And, it got the wheels turning. Should he? Should someone else?

Currently the ring honors Andre Johnson, who’s about to see himself inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame in August, team founder Bob McNair (RIP) and the greatest defender the AFC South has ever known in J.J. Watt.

But what about Cushing? His career spanned 9 seasons, all as a Texan. It ended with 424 solo tackles, 240 combined, 13.5 sacks and 8 interceptions. Not to mention Defensive Rookie of the Year and his singular trip to the Pro Bowl. And, his starring role on Hard Knocks, the Luv Ya (Alfred) Blue episode.

How about all-world tailback Arian Foster? The undrafted free agent out of Tennessee made the most of his pro opportunities, playing in 76 games in his 7-year Texans career. Foster amassed 6472 yards on 1454 carries, with 339 first downs and 54 touchdowns. His time in H-Town ended with a 4.5 yards per carry average, 2268 receiving yards and 14 more scores. Despite heading to the Miami Dolphins for his least season, Foster was a Texan through and through.

Arian Foster was a different breed.

And, don’t forget former linebacker turned AFC South Champion head coach DeMeco Ryans. Prior to finding himself on the Philadelphia Eagles, Ryans started 86 games for the Texans. In that time he accumulated 636 combined tackles, 479 solo stops, 43 tackles for loss, 8.5 sacks, 6 forced fumbles and 8 fumble recoveries.

Even more impressive is Ryan’s tenure as a head coach, taking the downtrodden Texans from worst to first in short order.

Who else could make the list? DeAndre Hopkins? Antonio Smith? Duane Brown? Chris Myers? Jonathan Joseph? Wade Phillips?
