Pro Football Focus surprisingly doesn't list Texans No. 32 in NFL power rankings

Pro Football Focus doesn’t consider the Houston Texans the worst team in the NFL.

In a 2021 offseason that has been as brutal for Houston sports fans as the 2020 season, the Texans will need to take all the victories they can find.

According to PFF, the Texans are No. 31 in their most recent NFL power rankings. Only the Detroit Lions were a worse football team than the Texans.

Pro Football Focus also stated that the Texans have a Super Bowl win probability of 0.1%, which tended to be on par with what Houston fans felt during the Bill O’Brien coaching days.

The highest-graded player on the Texans, according to the scouting analytics firm’s data, was receiver Brandin Cooks with an 81.1 grade. That assessment also seems pretty accurate give that quarterback Deshaun Watson may never play in a Texans uniform again, and defensive end J.J. Watt was a salary cap casualty. The Texans don’t have much star power, but they do have a handful of consistent players such as Cooks, who provided Houston with 81 catches for 1,150 yards and six touchdowns.

The highest-rated AFC South team was the Indianapolis Colts at No. 11. Their Super Bowl win probability is 1.8% and their highest-graded player is defensive tackle DeForest Buckner at 89.7.

The Tennessee Titans were second in the division at No. 13. The Titans have a Super Bowl win probability of 3.4%, and running back Derrick Henry is their highest-graded player at 93.5.

The Jacksonville Jaguars were No. 29, just two spots ahead of the Texans. Jacksonville has a Super Bowl win probability of 1.1% and center Brandon Linder is their highest-rated player with an 80.0 grade.

Houston has a bevy of questions on their roster, and their coaching staff is a conglomerates of holdovers from the O’Brien era, connections to the New England Patriots, and aspects of the Andy Reid coaching tree. The Texans are too dubious of commodity at this time for anyone to put them anywhere but the bottom in their power rankings.
