Ranking Wide Receiver Rooms Ahead of 2023 NFL Draft

April 21, 2023 by Last Word On Pro Football

2023 Wide Receiver Rooms

This offseason caused some serious shake-ups for NFL teams. Wide receivers are becoming a premium position in the NFL, and the draft is a weaker class by recent standards. While teams are checking their rookie wide receiver rankings, who tops the rankings of the 2023 wide receiver rooms?

Team Wide Receiver Rankings Pre-NFL Draft

The Good

Miami Dolphins

Despite Tyreek Hill planning to retire in 2025, the Dolphins should feel pretty good. Their depth chart includes Jaylen Waddle, an already exceptional player, and some nice depth pieces. They even bolstered the position with Chosen Anderson this offseason. For this reason, the Dolphins top the 2023 wide receiver rooms rankings. With all the existing talent, there is no need to add anyone in the draft next week.

Philadelphia Eagles

Fans and general managers dream of having the roster that the Eagles currently have. Between their Heisman-winning WR2 (Devonta Smith) and their pro bowl WR1 (A.J. Brown) whom they traded pennies for in retrospect, they are sitting pretty good. They could afford to upgrade from Quez Watkins to a more reliable number three, but Howie Roseman knows what he’s doing.

The Bad

Baltimore Ravens

Is Odell Beckham the savior? Will Rashod Bateman ever be healthy? Is Devin Duvernay the most underrated punt returner in the league? Find out on the next episode of the Baltimore Ravens soap opera. Until this team knows who their quarterback will be in 2023, they have bigger problems. But they also desperately need to upgrade at the position.

Carolina Panthers

The Panthers may have been one of the 2023 free agency winners, but they still need an extra playmaker or two. They currently have Adam Thielen set to mentor the next wave of pass catchers. For that reason, they have a window to take their quarterback of the future at one overall, then select a receiver in a later round to pair with their face of the franchise. This has been a popular selection in recent mock drafts.

The Ugly

Kansas City

Despite recent reports that Justyn Ross is healthy and lighting up workouts, the Chiefs need help outside. This is hilarious to say given they just won the Super Bowl, but Travis Kelce isn’t getting any younger. He might one day be the GOAT at his position, but he can only help this team for so long. Kadarius Toney is electric with the ball in his hands, but only when healthy. Unfortunately for the Chiefs, that feels like it is every other Tuesday if it’s a full moon. The Chiefs are on the short list to draft a pass catcher this year.

Houston Texans

All of America is wishing John Metchie a full recovery and his story is amazing. Outside of Metchie, the Texans currently have Nico Collins, Robert Woods and a smattering of players fans have never heard of. With their top two picks, there are reports they may not select a quarterback, and might not take a wide receiver. If they do not make a wide receiver selection, this may be the least talented 2023 wide receiver room in football.

The Honorable Mentions

Los Angeles Chargers

The Chargers got the short end of the stick in 2022. Their quarterback was battling injuries, as were their top two wide receivers. If Keenan Allen and Mike Williams are healthy, they are a lethal duo. However, that has been a rarity recently. The team could afford to add another body or two in the 2023 NFL Draft, and there are multiple players that profile to fit well on the team.

2023 NFL Draft Profiles

New Orleans Saints

First thing to remember with the Saints, Chris Olave has the special sauce. He was already on the PFF all-rookie team, and is on the short list for Pro Bowl consideration this season. In contrast, the rest of their 2023 wide receiver room leaves something to be desired. Rashid Shaheed is a fun deep threat, and Michael Thomas was once the best receiver in football. This is definitely a room to watch in 2023.

Pittsburgh Steelers

The Steelers just traded for Allen Robinson, and he might be the fourth-best receiver on the roster. George Pickens had one of the highest go-ball win rates in 2022, and Diontae Johnson is one of the best route runners in the NFL. Maybe this is a Pittsburgh homer pick, but this squad is set up for a massive step forward in 2023. They can afford to add a body in the third round or later.
