Saints, Chargers May Pursue Surprising Released Playmaker

The New Orleans Saints or Los Angeles Chargers may pursue surprising released playmaker, Noah Brown before the regular season begins next week. According to a report, the Texans are making final changes to their 53-man roster and one of them is leaving Brown out of the loaded receiver room. However, it is shocking to everyone but the trade for Stefon Diggs made it significantly harder for the Texans to retain the potential WR4 starter. Brown’s contributing performance last season made him an attractive option to keep on the depth chart.

Last season, he had 33 receptions for 567 yards and two touchdowns, averaging 17.2 yards per reception. Everyone should keep their eye on his value to a roster since he could still be a dependable weapon. The veteran was a former seventh-round pick of the Cowboys back in 2017 but didn’t get a decent chance to shine until arriving in Houston. C.J. Stroud’s connection with Brown at certain moments should put him out there and show that he’s available for another opportunity.

Brown won’t make a starting role but one that would keep in the slot for any quarterback that needs another weapon to use in-game-changing moments. He had a few of those in Houston which makes his release surprising but it shouldn’t be long before he makes another roster. The Saints may have a few receivers on the practice squad but they need results now if they want to keep Derek Carr as their future starter and to protect Dennis Allen’s job. Chris Olave alone won’t be able to carry this offense so Brown’s addition as a third option behind Rashid Shaheed should give some comfort.

However, the Chargers should probably listen to the Quentin Johnston trade rumors and make a cheap replacement by signing Brown.

Other Potential Destinations

Kansas City Chiefs

After releasing Kadarius Toney and signing JuJu Smith-Schuster, it’s clear the Chiefs are looking to add reinforcements for Patrick Mahomes. Rashee Rice and Marquise Brown are two key receivers that are going to miss some time but they should add one more wideout for insurance even if it’s just for a year. No one should depend on rookie Xavier Worthy to carve out a name for himself being that it’s his first year. However, anything is possible but when you have just a guy like Skyy Moore as your potential rotating list of receivers for Mahomes is troubling.

This is why they’re bringing in Peyton Hendershot to help with their flurry amount of receivers. However, a guy like Brown who has more experience than Moore should be able to win at least the No. 3 spot temporarily behind Worthy and Smith-Schuster.

Baltimore Ravens

Something that John Harbaugh should probably start thinking about is bringing in a homegrown receiver who has plenty of years ahead of him to become their third viable receiver option. Nelson Agholor is a good temporary solution to give Rashod Bateman some assistance but Brown’s presence should make him win the job. Brown may be a WR4 at best but can contribute to the offense in critical moments. He’s the type of player to make a regular slant play into something big on occasion.

Dallas Cowboys

Cowboys fans can finally breathe some fresh air for now that CeeDee Lamb is signing a new deal to stay with the team. However, the depth chart behind him doesn’t look like a championship team but that could always change. Brandin Cooks is the No. 2 receiver point blank but when you have guys like Jalen Tolbert and Jalen Brooks, it may confuse many. Many were hoping to add some reliability behind Lamb since they don’t want him carrying the receiver room again.

Since they have seen a lot of potential Tolbert carving himself out as a dependable No. 3 receiver then they might as well bring back familiar face, Brown. He’s still one of the best wideouts available and a good WR4 so this might finally be his opportunity which he never got in Dallas.
