Texans think there are good running backs on the board

April 29, 2022 by Texans Wire Leave a Comment

The Houston Texans used their twin first-round picks to take LSU cornerback Derek Stingley No. 3 overall and Texas A&M guard Kenyon Green No. 15 overall after a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Texans weren’t expected to use a first-round pick on a running back, nor were any running backs projected to go in the first round of the 2022 NFL draft. However, Day 2, which comprises Rounds 2-3, is a different story.

General manager Nick Caserio said the club will “look at everything” on Day 2.

“As far as how we evaluate the running back position in general, yeah, no different than we evaluate any other positions,” Caserio said. “There are certain skills that are required. We talked about this the other day, just about the overall composition of the room currently. If there’s an opportunity to add a player that we feel makes sense that enhances that room, then we’ll go ahead and do it.”

The Texans have selections at Nos. 37 (Round 2), 67 (Round 3), and 80 (Round 3). There are ample opportunities to pick up a running back, whether Texas A&M’s Isaiah Spiller, Michigan’s Hassan Haskins, Michigan State’s Kenneth Walker, or Iowa State’s Breece Hall.

Said Caserio: “When will that take place? Who knows? We’ll see. I think there are some good football players at that position and good football players at some other positions. Try to make a good decision and add a good player to the team and keep moving forward.”

The Texans have not picked a running back on Day 2 since they selected Texas’ D’Onta Foreman with a Round 3 pick.
