The Houston Texans are perhaps the league’s biggest disappointment, and one writer believes that an Evan Neal trade could save their season. Entering the season with postseason aspirations, C.J. Stroud and the Texans currently own a disappointing 0-3 record as the offense struggles to compensate for a disastrous offensive line.
The NFL doesn’t have enough good blockers to go around, and finding help at this stage of the season is especially difficult. With this in mind, Bleacher Report‘s Alex Kay believes the Texans should trade for former Giants first-round pick Evan Neal and see if he can improve in a new environment.
“Although Big Blue has been averse to deploying him in 2025, Neal is an experienced starter with a first-round pedigree,” Kay writes. “He’s appeared in 29 games – including 27 starts, mostly at the tackle spots – since the franchise drafted him at No. 7 overall in 2022.”
Texans, Giants Could Agree to An Evan Neal Trade
Evan Neal is a former top-10 pick, but he hasn’t played like it at the NFL level. Selected in the 2022 NFL Draft, the Alabama product earned a starting job right out of the gate but never came close to justifying his selection. He finished his rookie season with a 44.1 PFF grade, the 133rd-best mark out of 140 eligible tackles. He never really improved and struggled to hold his own at both tackle and guard.
Now relegated to backup work, the Houston Texans probably won’t be willing to give up much in an Evan Neal trade. With all this being said, he was a first-round pick for a reason, and perhaps a change of scenery can bring out the best in him. Frankly, it can’t hurt to try, and the Texans must do something to try and salvage their season. Stroud doesn’t look anything like the quarterback who guided his team to the playoffs as a rookie, and he’s clearly incapable of overcoming this subpar blocking.
