Can Blake Fisher become a starter for the Houston Texans offensive line?

With the 59th pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, the Houston Texans select offensive tackle Blake Fisher from Notre Dame.

Standing at 6-6, and weighing 310 pounds, Fisher was the starting right tackle for Notre Dame in 2022 and 2023. During that timeframe, Fisher established himself as an intriguing prospect for the NFL, displaying the foundation and size prototypical of an NFL lineman.

With plenty of natural talent and athleticism, there’s a high ceiling for Fisher to aspire to as he backs up current starting tackle Tytus Howard. With impressive flexibility paired with strength, Fisher has flashed serious potential.

He’s quick, shown the ability to work in the screen game, and doesn’t get flustered by aggressive edge rushers.

Although, he isn’t a perfect prospect. Inconsistency in balance has gotten the better of him at times, and sloppy footwork can be a nagging problem in the future. Thanks to his great athleticism, he was able to get away with infrequent play in college, but that margin for error will shrink drastically in the NFL.

Despite these demerits, Fisher has everything you’d want in an NFL tackle. If it wasn’t for collegiate teammate Joe Alt and other established tackles being in this draft, Fisher would have likely gone much higher. If he is able to conquer his shortcomings, Fisher can be an immediate contributor or even eventual starter at either end of the line for the Houston Texans. Maybe, just maybe, Nick Caserio has found a future starter yet again in the 2nd round.
