DeMar DeRozan on Dillon Brooks: ‘I just don’t like him’

June 7, 2024 by Hoops Hype

During a recent episode of The 25/10 Show, DeMar DeRozan discussed the altercation that he had with Dillon Brooks. He was upset that Brooks came up behind him when he wasn’t looking. “I’m not going to lie, I just don’t like him,” DeRozan said. “And for two, don’t walk up behind me, that’s rule number one, don’t walk up on no man behind him when his back’s turned.”

More on this storyline

The Bulls would be happy to re-sign DeMar DeRozan on a two-year deal. DeRozan’s side obviously would covet more security. The Bulls have a habit of liberally latching player options into contracts so that carrot could come into play with DeRozan’s deal as well. The dollar amount will be hefty, likely north of $40 million annually, but is less significant to the Bulls’ long-term flexibility. Chicago wants to keep DeRozan but at a reasonable commitment. -via New York Times / June 4, 2024
As previously reported on HoopsHype following the lottery, there’s a belief around the league that DeMar DeRozan will ultimately re-sign with the Bulls, given the team’s continued desire to compete, his role, and Chicago’s willingness to pay him. However, one team worth monitoring as a potential suitor for DeRozan via sign-and-trade is the Los Angeles Clippers, should the franchise fail to re-sign Paul George in free agency, HoopsHype has learned. -via HoopsHype / May 28, 2024
DeRozan recently opened up about the experience on The Pivot Podcast, and he revealed that the whole situation messed up his mental health a lot. “It f**ked me up, I’m being honest,” DeRozan said. “It’s crazy, I’m more than comfortable talking about it now but for the longest time it f**ked me up because, one, that was the place I wanted to be, thought I was going to be, gave everything to like my whole motivation and drive was to simply put Toronto on the map. I wanted to follow the whole motto of, you know, Kobe [Bryant], my favorite player, I wanted to play on one team, I had it all mapped out, so when I got traded it was such a blow because at the time I was dealing with my family stuff, like you said, that was when my dad first started getting sick. That was the first time in my professional career where I just felt like out of it, I felt lost. I started to question every single thing.” -via Clutch Points / May 21, 2024
