Andre Drummond has been a top rebounder in the game since being selected in the 2012 NBA Draft. Drummond actually has the highest career rebounding percentage since 1970-71. He may have been overlooked the past few seasons as he transitioned to a reserve role with the Chicago Bulls backing up Nikola Vucevic. While the 31-year-old has been playing less than his days with the Detroit Pistons where he was a two-time All-Star, Drummond is still grabbing boards at a high rate.
Speaking of being overlooked, ESPN and their SportsCenter X page clearly overlooked Drummond with a recent tweet.

Reese’s 3 Consecutive Games With At Least 20 Rebounds
In her rookie season in the WNBA, Angel Reese has been breaking league/rookie records with her double-doubles and rebounding prowess. Through her first 29 games, the 22-year-old is averaging 12.9 rebounds which leads the WNBA. In her last three outings, Reese has grabbed 22, 20, and 20 boards. That streak of 20+ rebounds had the SportsCenter X page tweeting this out.

Impressive for sure. It just wasn’t factual that her and Ben Wallace were the only two to accomplish the feat in the last 50 years.
Drummond Did The Same Thing In 4 Straight Outings
Wallace’s 20+ rebound streak came in 2003, 21 years ago. He was the last in the NBA/WNBA to have three-straight games with at least 20 rebounds according to the tweet from the SportsCenter X page until Reese also did so. Except Wallace hadn’t been the last to do it.
While with the Detroit Pistons, Drummond led the league in rebounding four times in a five-season span. The last of those seasons where his rebounding average topped the NBA was in 2019-20. It was also that season where Drummond had a streak that the Sportscenter X page failed to mention.

It wasn’t just three games in a row that Drummond, now with the Philadelphia 76ers, grabbed at least 20 boards, it was four. Did ESPN quickly try to get a tweet out without doing the full research? Did they see someone else post the information and assume it was correct?
Who knows, but there was another player from the same exact season that was also omitted from the SportsCenter tweet that should have been included.
Capela One-Upped Drummond By Doing It In 5 Straight
Clint Capela, current center for the Atlanta Hawks, has also been one of the game’s great rebounders. In his first season with the team in 2020-21, he led the league averaging 14.3 per game. It was the prior season though in 2019-20 while with the Houston Rockets that Capela had a game log that looked like this.
- November 9, 2019: 20 rebounds
- November 11, 2019: 20 rebounds
- November 13, 2019: 20 rebounds
- Novemver 18, 2019: 20 rebounds
- November 20, 2019: 21 rebounds
That’s right. In the same month that Drummond accomplished his 20+ rebound streak, Capela had an even longer one of five straight games. Now Capela did miss two games in between the third and fourth outings in that streak, but that shouldn’t matter. It’s still five straight contests that he played with grabbing at least 20 boards.
Perhaps ESPN Stats & Info was missing data from the NBA during November of 2019? Surprisingly, as of this writing, the tweet remains up even though it is not correct.
