Evaluating Possible Giannis Trade Destinations for Fantasy Basketball

The Milwaukee Bucks have entered the offseason after losing to the Indiana Pacers in the first round. Damian Lillard tore his Achilles and will most likely miss all of the 2025-26 season. The Bucks only have seven players on guaranteed contracts next year. Key role players like Brook Lopez, Gary Trent Jr., and Taurean Prince are unrestricted free agents. Bobby Portis, Kevin Porter Jr., and Pat Connaughton have yet to exercise their player options for next season. It’s safe to say that the Milwaukee Bucks are going to make some very tough decisions this offseason. The most important one is what to do with their beloved franchise star, Giannis Antetokounmpo. A lot of fans and media would like Giannis to be traded to another team this offseason. We’re going to go through four different possible trade destinations and evaluate the fantasy impacts for Giannis.

Evaluating Possible Giannis Trade Destinations for Fantasy Basketball

Houston Rockets

The Houston Rockets have become a very popular landing spot for the former MVP. This deal would be centered around the Bucks getting back Alperen Sengun as the main piece and some first-round picks. This would most likely be one of the best possible landing spots for fantasy purposes. Giannis would instantly become one of the best playmakers and rebounders on the Rockets’ roster. Having someone like Giannis opens up the floor in many ways for both Jalen Green and Fred VanVleet. The team’s defense would still be near the top of the league as well. This is one of the only destinations where I can see Giannis improving his counting stats from this season. The Rockets would be very lucky to land Giannis this summer.

Golden State Warriors

I will admit, this is probably the most unrealistic team for Giannis to go to on this list. But, potentially seeing Stephen Curry and Giannis Antetokounmpo share the floor is very fun. The Warriors would most likely move off of Jimmy Butler to make this happen, but I do think the Warriors would do this to acquire Giannis. On paper, Steph and Giannis fit seamlessly together. Now, I know the NBA world said the same thing about Dame and Giannis, but I trust Steve Kerr’s ability to execute a lot more. Giannis would become the Warriors’ best rebounder and maintain his top fantasy status if he were to be traded to the Golden State Warriors.

Brooklyn Nets

The Brooklyn Nets have been one of the more popular trade destinations for Giannis. They don’t have a lot of players to give the Bucks, but they can give up a lot of draft capital. The Nets would still have picks left over from the Mikal Bridges trade, so they would not let go of all of their assets. The intriguing part about this destination is that Giannis would have free rein on how this roster would be built. The Nets also could potentially land the number one overall pick in this year’s draft. They attempted to do this with Kevin Durant, but injuries stopped that team from being something special. Now, they would get the chance to learn from their mistakes. As for the next fantasy season, Giannis would stuff the stat sheet and could potentially have his best statistical season ever with a young and unproven Nets roster.

Miami Heat

The Heat is a team that is stuck in mediocrity after the Jimmy Butler era. They have good players like Bam Adebayo and Tyler Herro, but not a good enough collection of talent to take on the top teams in the East. Giannis can be the change for the Miami Heat. Now they would most likely have to give up Bam in this trade, but I think it would be worth it for the Heat. This trade would allow Giannis to be surrounded by a Hall of Fame-level coach and competent role players who fit him well. This roster would have some more flexibility for Giannis, as he could play either power forward or center for this team. Giannis’ fantasy value could go down a little, but he would still be outstanding compared to the rest of the league at this destination.

The Last Word

Giannis Antetokounmpo has been one of the greatest talents to ever play in the NBA. His unique skillset and playstyle are something that we rarely see from a 6’11” power forward. Unfortunately, since the Bucks’ championship in 2021, they have done a poor job of keeping a championship-caliber roster around Giannis. This led many fans, media, and NBA execs to focus on a trade involving the former MVP.

The Rockets, Warriors, Nets, and Heat were four destinations that are both semi-realistic and impactful for fantasy basketball. Any destination where Giannis Antetokounmpo goes, he is still going to be a great fantasy player. But, some destinations may offer a little more, or a little less, when relating to Giannis’ fantasy value. Now, it’s time to see the next team that Giannis is going to provide elite fantasy production for.
